Developed injection molding production and introduced many plastics products into the automotive and appliances fields. Known as a "helping hand" throughout the Midwest; served as a counselor on molder management.

Following his schooling at the University of Michigan, Mr. Sherwood worked with the molded plastics division of Reynolds Spring Company.

In 1946, he founded Michigan Plastic Products. His commitment to the plastics industry and his leadership abilities were not only instrumental in the growth of his company, but contributed to the growth and development of those who worked with him both in his own community and throughout the industry.

From its modest origins as a custom molder for the automotive and appliance industries, his company has grown into one of the largest plastic processing firms in Michigan. In all, he has built three plants, each one larger and more modern that its predecessor.

Today, Michigan Plastics is one of the most modern custom molding plants in the country and is considered the epitome of what the plastics industry represents.

During his more than 30-year entrepreneurial career, he has consistently demonstrated vision and a progressive interest in the advancement of the industry. Always keeping up with the most advanced technology in his quest for excellence, his products have gained a reputation for quality.

In addition to his commitment to producing high-quality products, he pioneered a new look for manufacturing plants in western Michigan, where he built innovative and attractive facilities. The new image in industrial architecture enhanced not only his community, but the industry in general. In 1978, Michigan Plastics was named "Area Plant of the Year."

His life-long devotion to his community spurred him into a wide range of activities. He served on the school board for a number of years and was chairman of a major educational foundation.

He spearheaded a building program for the local YMCA and served as its chairman; he was past president and current vice president of the Grand Haven, Michigan, Community Foundation, a public agency for funding community projects; past president of the Rotary Club; past chairman of the North Ottawa County Red Cross, and past chairman of the United Fund Drive. He also served as a director of Security First Bank and Trust Company.

His confidence in structural foam molding and finishing led Michigan Plastic Products to open a new plant in Indiana.
